Assesses for ruptured Achilles tendon

Performing the Test

  1. Patient prone with foot overhanging table, calf muscle squeezed at middle third, just below widest part
  2. Normal result: plantar movement of foot
  3. Positive test: no plantar movement of foot, indicates severance of achilles tendon
  4. Sensitivity: 96%; specificity: 93%
