This test is designed to screen for pain reproduced by the described movement

Performing the Test

  1. Have patient reach above and behind head with affected arm attempting to "scratch" the contralateral shoulder blade
  2. Have patient reach below and behind back with affected arm attempting to "scratch" the contralateral shoulder blade
  3. Test is positive if pain is reproduced with the movements, most likely indicates rotator cuff injury
