The anterior release test is used to assess for anterior shoulder instability.

Performing the Test

  1. Complete relocation test, then release the force applied to the anterior humeral head
  2. The test is positive if apprehension or pain returns
  3. Sensitivity: 85%; specificity: 87%
  4. LR+ = 6.5; LR- = 0.2
